Assumptions Major edits to a flow, including adding emails, create a new version of the Journey, and participants already in the Journey will only proceed through steps of the journey for the version in which they started. Standard functionality allows lightweight edits to live journeys, but adding email steps and other actions at the end of the journey will create a new version - only net new participants would experience those additional steps as they are processed through new journey version. Each participant's flow in the program is dictated by which version was live at the time of enrollment. New Preview functionality allows editing emails used in journeys. Editing segments attached to live journeys is not possible. This work item is tagged as a GAP as native live journey edit functionality may not meet the expectations of the business.
Information provided to us from 3rd party partner:
“That preview feature could adjust the content for an email in a journey, but you can't go in and add later emails to the end, etc. Most platforms allow that, to be honest. But CIJ has been lagging in that department. That can be a real pain point for customers that want to start a 12 email sequence, but they only have the first 6 approved at launch. In CIJ, if they started the journey with 6 emails, that's all they'll ever be eligible to receive. That's more what this is about.”
Customer Insights Journeys (CIJ) follows a strict journey versioning model, where any structural change to a journey—such as adding emails, actions, or branches—results in the creation of a new journey version.
While the Preview feature allows updates to the content of existing email steps, it does not support extending the journey structure for participants who are already in progress.
